It All Started Last Christmas

Last Christmas I had a yearning to have a 90s Christmas. If you didn't live through the 90s, here are some images that give you an idea of what I mean.
These images are like a trip down memory lane for me. They were my junior high and high school years. They bring back a bunch of nostalgia.
I remember a girl in my book club asking what exactly I meant by a 90s Christmas. Picture a tree full of red, blue and green plaid, homemade ornaments (things that meant something to me), a quilted tree skirt with a teddy bear (or maybe a stuffed goose!) underneath. That was last year.
Since then, I have discovered that I really wanted what was referred to this year as a Ralph Lauren Christmas. I think all the years of all white or black everything has lead to a moment where everyone is craving color and comfort instead of starkness.
I have embraced this fully.

While my house decor has not caught up to the moment because I just haven't had the time to do the things I would like to, my wardrobe is having a very Ralph Lauren moment.
I'm currently obsessed.
What does this mean? I think again, it goes back to the boredom that simple outfits of the 2010s brought on. I am so over black leggings with anything. Leggings are on my #1 list of things I dislike wearing. Unless I am at a workout class, I would not be sporting these around. As always, if they are your signature style and you love them, go for it. They are just not for me.

Another example? Tunic tops and long cardigans. I'm just tired of the look. And they are usually combined with...leggings. Does that mean I don't have any in my closet? No. Well maybe not any tunics. But it's how you wear the long cardigans that makes them feel fresh and new.
Which brings me back to my current obsession...Ralph. I'm having a love affair with the designer. He brings the 90s back in a boho, cowboy, interesting outfit kind of way. Think fairisle sweaters, cowboy boots, ball caps, belts, belts, belts, lots of collared shirts, blazers, jackets. And most of all=layers, layers, layers. All of these looks take me back to the 90s. They are easy clothes with fun details that make great outfits (color, pattern, texture, shine). They are not the boring clothes of the late 2010s. But as you know, I am a more-is-more kind of girl.
Take a look at my Pinterest board for inspiration-

I was just talking to my sister this weekend who said she needed to buy more outfits so that her clothes look more put together and interesting. Unless you are buying a really tricky piece of clothing (which at this time, I can't think of one), I think the key is put together the pieces you already own to give you more interesting outfits. I can help with that.
If you've read this far, thanks for the time. Coming soon, how to make your outfit interesting....!
And now you know my current obsession with all things 90s- in the best way.
