This week was demo week.  And for that we called in some recruits.  Thanks to my brother and my dad for bringing in some muscle to this messy job!

Here are the kitchen cabinets coming out.

Here’s a shot of the kitchen with the cabinets out.

They tried to haul away this little lovely to the dumpster but I save it.  It’s the old bathroom vanity.  I have big plans for its future!

There’s the empty space that bathroom vanity left.

Tub and shower gone.

No more carpet!

Trim gone and closet doors off.

Here’s the old flooring stacked up to be used again somewhere.

This is a coat closet at the top of the stairs.  I had an idea for this space too.  A little demo on the other side and it’ll be half a pantry/half coat hanging space.  (More on that later!)

This kitchen definitely needs more storage!

Now that the demo is 90% done, the real work begins!

One thing that I noticed right away in our fixer upper was that in true 70’s fashion, the kitchen was closed off from the living room by some short interior walls.  After consulting with the Mr., it was determined that we could use some different support for the wall and take out the short walls.  It will involve a little reconfiguring, but now it will be so much more open and inclusive.  It should feel like all one big room!

Here’s the before-

Meanwhile, I’ve been busy painting ceilings just to give them a fresh coat.  I was kind of sad painting over the clouds.  🙁

That’s all for now!

As promised, here is a tour of the main floor of the fixer upper.  It is your typical 1970 split level and looks like it was in the process of some updates before we purchased it.

Come on in!

I have big plans for this place. After all, I’m the designer on this project! I’ll try to keep you updated on our projects but you’ll have to be patient. I am a part of the labor too. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Never miss an update
